Why am I getting a virus found message?

podunkboy Oct 18, 2007 04:55 PM

Every time I post a reply on here, I get a IE box pop up that says "Virus Found -- File has been dropped. worm.win32.feebs.gen". My antivirus software's up to date, it's not picking up anything from a drive scan, and I'm not seeing this message anywhere but on chowhound.
Anyone else seeing this?

I "Alt/Print Screened" when I got the pop-up while posting in "Not about Food" area, this is all that copied to the clipboard.

It seems like it's a false alarm, since our own virus detectors haven't seen anything. The "gen" suffix means that your antivirus software, or perhaps corporate firewall, took a guess rather than detected the virus exactly.

However, you can try this tool http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/feebs... just in case your computer really is infected with something.

Please let us know what the tool reports.

attempting to duplicate/snag a screen shot by posting in this topic...nope, didn't pop up today, but if it does, I'll attach it here.

Can you attach a screenshot of the message you get?

Sometimes adware on your own computer pretends that you have a virus in order to obscure the real virus, which is itself. On the other hand, if one of the CHOW advertisers is mistakenly sending a virus, we need to know about it.
