My new favorite Mexican food
If you are a fan of authentic Mexican food, you've got to try Tonayan in Rohnert Park. I've driven by this restaurant, located in the Raley's shopping center for the past year and had no clue what I was missing. The place is very unassuming, a converted diner that could have housed an IHOP or Denny's, which is one of the reasons I never stopped in.
My first experience last night was utterly amazing. The owner, Isidrio, hails from the town in Sonora, Tonayan, the restaurant's namesake. The serivce is awesome - attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Isidrio makes it his responsibility to make sure everybody is happy, and well fed with huge portion sizes and most entrees <$12 and under.
I had "El Jefe" a giant combination of Carne Asada, Black Beans, Rice, a perfectly cooked Chile Relleno, delicious Chicken Burrito, and Steak Taco, all for only $12.95! I was only able to eat about 1/3 and have lunch and dinner covered for today! My boyfriend ordered the Steak Fajitas, which were served with warm corn tortillas, and also perfectly seasoned and cooked.
All in all, this beats any local Mexican food restaurant, and I've tried most!
yes! I've recommended this place before when people ask for recommendations in the Rohnert Park/Cotati area. You have got to try the mole enchiladas. In fact, I love them so much that I have yet to try anything else! And, it comes as a lunch special - it seems like very few Mexican restaurants even offer mole, but if they do, often it's not available at lunch. Every time I go there, I say that I will try something else, and then I get to thinking about those mole enchiladas and I have to have some! And you are right, the service is attentive and friendly. Everyone who I have brought there loves it.
