Minneapolis Delivery (particularly South)

As my husband and I sit, sloth-like, on the bed tonight we've discovered how hard it is to find restaurants in Minneapolis that deliver. I worked my best Google-fu to no avail. Does anyone know of a website that has a good list of actual *delivery joints*, not take-out, possibly something that says what area they deliver in?

Barring that, do you have any suggestions? Here's my sad little list for my neighborhood (Bancroft):

Caffrey's Deli & Subs
3008 Lyndale Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55408

Fat Lorenzos
5600 Cedar Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55417

  1. Here are a few more. There used to be a Chinese place on 46th and Nicollet - in the same strip mall as Pepito's. I don't know if it's there anymore, and I don't recall its name.

There is also a delivery service in town that brings take out from a long list of participating restaurants that don't deliver themselves. You can get food from places like Joe's Garage, Applebee's, anything from Midtown Global Market, and a ton more.

Galooney's serves more than pizza - they have sandwiches, too.

Fresh Wok on 46th and Nicollet uses white chicken meat, which we like.

In several years of getting takeout and delivery from Fresh Wok, I've had two or three bad meals, a few barely OK ones, but many many fairly good ones.

I like that they use nice big shrimp in their shrimp dishes (except they use little ones in "Hunan Chicken and Shrimp," but it's still good, kind of like a spicy chicken almond ding with little shrimp instead of almonds)... I'm partial to their shrimp in black bean sauce. They rarely overcook the vegetables (except for one unhappy night when I had the limpest, wettest moo shu chicken of my life). The lunch specials are a good deal. Overall, not stellar but pretty good, IMO.

      2. Have you tried Star Moon Chinese for delivery yet? I've been tempted, but haven't heard anything about it.

I get takeout from Star Moon frequently but can't really attest to the quality, since I usually get plain steamed chicken and veggies and steamed pork dumplings. Husband has gotten sesame chicken and fried rice before and enjoyed it. Do be careful though, once the owner's daughter (around 10 years old I think) answered the phone and took my order and it was messed up. Based on my limited menu selections, I do think that Star Moon is better than the place on 46th and Nicollet.

          1. re: Kilgore

Hi, i orderd food from Star Moon this evening and it was pretty good. I had chicken and veg. and shrimp and veg.i would order from there again. and the price was not bad either. once i ordered from star dragon on lake st. and it was very expensive and the food was horrible!

            1. re: Kilgore

Star Moon is our preferred Chinese delivery. The quality is about what you'd expect in an Americanized Chinese delivery joint. We've never had an order messed up or dealt with the 10-year-old, but we do frequently get the angry "WHAT YOU WANT?! WHAT ELSE?!?!" guy on the phone a lot.

We tried that other place on 46th & Nicollet and hated it too.

Does anyone know if Star Moon Delivers West of 35W? or if Hong's Kitchen is worth a try?

Is there really no delivery in the bulk of South Minneapolis besides pizza and chinese?

                1. re: GastronautMN

Hong's is okay, we've gotten it a few time. We've had problems with language over the phone, but the food is fine. We prefer Fresh Wok for delivery at 46th and Nicollet.

              2. re: Kilgore

We have tried Star Moon for takeout when we moved two blocks away, and I think it's horrible. Gluey sauces, poor quality proteins, no real depth or complexity of flavor. I cannot attest to any steamed dishes, but there are minimal veg options, and they were unwilling to do substitutions for our veggie friends. We would rather drive to Ping's or Rainbow, or down to Mandarin Kitchen instead of walk the two blocks.... that's how bad it was.

              3. I don't know if this venture is in service, but it LOOKS like they'd deliver from several places, including the Midtown Global Market:

There was also a post from last December about take out and delivery (non pizza/chinese/sandwiches) that may have some info for you:

                1. Lake Harriet Pizza to 50th and Penn makes a fine pie and they cover most of south Minneapolis west of 35W.

I am actually amazaed at how little good delivery there is in Mpls outside of downtown.

                  1. Dulono's is our favorite Pizza.

There is a wings and ribs place on Lake and about 4th that says they deliver, I've never been there, so I cannot attest.

                    Burrito Loco also delivers.

Hong's Kitchen also delivers, but is only ok.

And there is always Jimmy John's

I don't recommend it in the least, but I just learned today that Baja Sol delivers.

I have been having a dickens of a time with Places lately.

The last time I checked, Burrito Loco had discontinued delivery from their Uptown location. Their website wasn't updated with that info, but they were firm when I called them.

                      3. Scott Ja Mama's offers delivery, although they're not always open. Rotisseria also delivers (all I've ever had from there is the Peruvian chicken, but it's quite good).

                        1. Hiawatha Joe also delivers. Good sandwiches, mediocre pizza.

Hot dang, that's the best news so far. Is it the pasta bar side or the deli side?

                              1. re: PikaPikaChick

It's the deli side for sure. I don't think the pasta bar delivers - it's not mentioned on their web site.

The Broder's web site has the delivery menu under the Cucina Italiana section.
