New casual place in Needham

I understand Wild Willie's burgers has applied for permit to open in the vacant storefront next to Bertrucci's in Needham, where Bai Thong used to be. Went once to the one in Watertown with the grandkids, and found it not-so-special. Limp fries and a burger that was so overcooked it was a joke. Beyond well-done. Hope that was a fluke...will try again to see, if they open a new location. Hope springs eternal.

I've been to the Wild Willy's Burgers in Watertown several times over the past few years, and I've never had an experience like the one you had. My burgers have always been cooked correctly, and the fries haven't been limp (though it's important to eat them relatively quickly while they are still hot). The waits are sometimes a bit long, and I'm not a fan of their "walk the rapidly-cooling burger around the room, searching randomly for the tiny number on the table that matches the order number" method of service. I'd much rather go up to a counter to get the food while it is still hot.

I wouldn't really call Wild Willy's special, but then I haven't found a burger place in the Boston area, including ones that get favorable attention on Chowhound (for example UBurger and Grille Zone), that I would call special. I'd certainly put Wild Willy's in the class of those two places. I think the burgers and buns are both better than at UBurger, though they are a little more expensive, too. I've only been to Grille Zone once, so I won't make any snap judgments, but my experience was that Wild Willy's held its own with them.

My experience with Wild Willy's is that they are pretty good but overpriced for what you get.

We stopped at the Wild Willies in York Maine a couple of weeks ago and the burgers were delicious-cooked just right and the fries were crispy. I guess as with everything it depends on whose cooking and a good one in one place does not translate to good in another place, but lets hope.
