Japanese Food in Alabama?
I'm looking for good Japanese food in Alabama, or as close as possible. Not steak houses so much, although I'm grateful for all recommendations - more sushi places, robatikus, even teriyaki joints. I'd also like to find a good place for basic Japanese ingredients - like good fresh ginger, the heavy, moist kind, not the lighweight, dried-out, stringy husks I've seen in local grocery stores.

Go down U.S. 280 to Kimono. Tell Leo, the sushi chef/owner, that you want to eat like a Japanese person or merely ask for omakase. You'll be in for a treat. I've done that and have been treated to specialty items they reserve only for their Japanese customers.
Jinsei also is great and probably is able to do the same thing.
