Thai Food in Alabama?

I'm looking for good Thai food in Alabama. Southern 2/3 of the state preferred but will drive north - anything for some good larb.:) Also - would love recommendations for places to buy really good, fresh Thai ingredients - Mobile maybe? I'm thinking real Thai stores more than Fresh Market Thai spices, but all tips appreciated.

  1. I haven't been through AL is over a decade, so I don't know if things have changed, but a few times in Mobile I had some of the best Thai food in the entire country at a place called "Bangkok Thai Cuisine" (and my Thai relatives concur with this assessment). They used to have a Thai-owned grocery pretty much next door to the place too. Not sure if either is still there, but here is their contact info. as best as I can google it:

    Bangkok Thai Cuisine
    5345 Hwy 90 W
    Mobile, AL 36619-4205
    Phone: (251) 666-7788

I recall that professional reviews back in the day labelled this place not only the best Thai in Mobile, but the best Thai in Alabama.

Apparently there's also a newer place closer to downtown Mobile called Busaba's Thai Cuisine. Online reviews claim it's now the most authentic in the city (but it's definitely more expensive and with smaller portions than Bangkok Thai). According to a review in the Mobile Register, "one of the finest, most refreshingly new meals we've had in a while." Anyway, if you're in the area, you might want to do a "Thai crawl" of both places.

      1. Bangkok Thai Cuisine is fantastic. I eat there all the time and have yet to have a bad meal. The spring rolls and curries are can't miss.
