Tamarind pulp and curry leaves in Manhattan?

Jessca Oct 17, 2007 09:03 AM

Can anybody recommend a Manhattan Indian grocery store that offers the above ingredients? I work on 42nd street, so anywhere I could walk to after office hours would be great.

Thank you!

P.S. If all else fails, does Whole Foods stock these?

There have been threads on this before. The closest store would be Kalustyan's. Below that are the stores on 1st Avenue around 6th Street. And below that is the Asian Market on Mott Street. You can certainly get tamarind pulp in Midtown, but if you want curry leaves, it's autumn above 33rd Street.

Kaulstyan's is a ripoff. Go to the Indian/Pakistani grocer on 1st Ave right below E. 6th. Much cheaper and the quality is just as good. Also, there's a place on Lexington near 27th that I think is called Spice Corner; they also stock a wide variety of Indian spices/condiments/etc.
