Dinner near Cleveland Hopkins
I will be arriving in Cleveland next Thursday night and will be looking for a good place to have a late dinner. The earliest I can arrive will be 8:30pm. I will be headed West toward Oberlin, so I can stop off on the way. Any suggestions?

If your strategy would be to drive north from the airport, have dinner, and then head west on I-90, I would highly recommend Three Birds http://www.3birdsrestaurant.com. It is on Detroit Ave. in western Lakewood. You can take Riverside Drive all the way north from the airport (which will put you right there -- about 15 minutes), and after dinner, you can pick up 90 off of Detroit about 1/2 mile west of Three Birds. It is a lovely restaurant with wonderful and creative food "American" food. It is a bit pricey, but such is life.

FYI, I-480 westbound has been closed off and on, particularly on evenings/weekends and I'd hate for you to plan to go that way and get lost. I think that's probably the way most maps would suggest you go to get to Oberlin (from the airport, they'd suggest I-71 north to I-480 west), so you may want to map out an alternate route and have that handy in case it's closed.
If you are able to get on 480 westbound, the easiest place to stop would be North Olmsted, which is about a 10-15 minute drive from the airport. You would exit at Great Northern Blvd which is the exit after Clague. All lanes turn R off the exit and put you onto Great Northern Blvd. You'll go through I think three lights, crossing over Brookpark road, past the Chick-Fil-A and then the road comes to a T into Lorain; Right on Lorain road and go about 1/3 of a mile. You'll see a Dairy Queen on your right and then a drug mart drugstore; right next door is a great and cheap Mexican place there called Nuevo Acapulco. It's very quick, friendly and very tasty and there are usually still plenty of people there later on, that would be my suggestion.
If 480W is closed, you'll need to get to I-90. To do so, keep north on I-71 and exit at W. 150th, which is only a few minutes north. Turn left (north) off the exit and proceed on 150th through several lights, about 5 minutes, and you'll get to the I-90 overpass/entrance. You'll go through a residential neighborhood first with some businesses; right after you get of 71 you'll pass a bunch of fast food places and gas stations, then you'll keep going and see a Speedway (bear right to continue on 150th), then a strip mall on your left - at this point, you're getting closer, it's just around the next corner and through another couple of lights. To go west on 90, you'll need to be in the left lane.
If you end up going out I-90 I would suggest you'll be tired and it will be late and dark so I would stick close to the highway and just go to one of the chains; there's a Carrabba's there which is visible from the highway between Clague and Columbia. I normally don't recommend chains but they're one of the more palatable ones and when you're tired and it's dark and you're alone, you don't want to futz around trying to find places when you don't know your way.

Admitedly, I haven't been there in a few years, so they might have gone downhill (or perhaps they were just so strong that I quickly lost my ability to discern the flavor). On the other hand, for Mexican food, Nuevo Acapulco doesn't hold a candle to Luchita's on West 117th St., which is some of the best Mexican food I've had anywhere in the USA.

http://www.clevelandnights.com/clevel... This is a review of India Garden -- one block east of Three Birds. I haven't been there yet, but have heard very good things about it.

It all depends on what you like, people are wildly different when it comes to Mexican and Nuevo is no gourmand stop, for sure. I have been to Luchitas several times and I've never enjoyed anything I've had there though I know a lot of other people enjoy it. It does trend towards a little more authentic Mexican than Tex-Mex though, which is nice.

What kind of food are you looking for? What type of service? If Mexican food that you order at the register and wait for is ok then I would recommend El Tango. It's a couple miles North of Hopkins but after dinner you'll be right on 90. Call to confirm but they should be open till 10. El Tango is the only restaurant I can think of that I frequent.
I'm not a regular but I've been to Presto a couple times. Presto is a sandwich shop. My couple-a visits left me very impressed. Get the tomato soup if it's available. Sides are all good, too. They make gelato now which wasn't the case the last time that I was there.
There are several places that I've been very eager to try but I just haven't gotten around to them. I've heard only great things about Henry's at the Barn. I've heard good things about Aroma. I've heard generally good things about Nemo Grille.
Are you familiar with the Oberlin area? Would you want suggestions in that area? I have another couple restaurants that I haven't tried but have heard great things. Parker Bosley retired and closed one of Cleveland's best restaurants and in his last interview he recommended a place in Oberlin called Black River Cafe. They do the fresh, in house, local cuisine that Bosley championed in Cleveland. I've also heard good things about The Feve. I think both of these places offer casual, simple food. The Feve is open late if you can wait till after your trip to eat. I don't know the hours for Black River Cafe.
