Birthday dinner in Maui?

Any recommendations for great food for a bday dinner in Maui for 3 adults in their 70s. They love to eat but are likely to stick to fish and/or vegetarian stuff. Are there any restaurants that will easily allow us to do a gift certificate over the phone or by e-mail? Thanks so much.

Mama's is great, so is Hali'imaile General Store, Buzz's Wharf in the harbor, the Waterfront in the harbor, Seawatch in Wailea (sister restaurant of Plantation House) and Nick's Fishmarket at the Kea Lani. The restaurants at the Four Seasons in Wailea are superb as well, Ferraro's and Duo.

My wife and my favorite Maui restaurant is Plantation House, which is perfect for a birthday dinner. Tell them it's your birthday and I think they even give you a free dessert. It's in the clubhouse of the Plantation Golf Course in Kapalua. Go at sunset for a great view.

They have three kinds of fish each night, available in any of five different preparations. If you prefer vegetarian, they can also make any of those same five choices with tofu instead of fish.

There are photos of the food and a list of some of the other menu items for Plantation House (and for many other Maui restaurants in all price ranges) on the Restaurants tab of

IIRC, from earlier threads, Mama's Fish House does do gift certificates. I have never eaten there, but a search of this board will yield many hits.

What area of Mau`i, are they staying? This could well determine where the suggestions will be.
