Contemplating Masa's This Friday...

Last year after celebrating my 40th birthday at the Dining Room, I decided that I deserve to do this once a year... why wait till I'm 80, right? I might be dead! Anyway, we decided to try another restaurant with a tasting menu, and especially since the Dining Room doesn't have reservations when we're available, I'm thinking about going to try Masa's. Looks like they have a 6-course and a 9-course.

It'll be my husband and me. We both don't drink alcohol, so we'll pass on the wine. Can we add an entree to the menu? Anything I should know about this restaurant? I noticed the 9-course doesn't have prime rib... and that's my favorite! At the Dining Room, we were charged $10/each for the cheese, but I didn't hear any words from our server that told me there was an extra charge. Anything like this I should know about ahead of time? $20 didn't kill us, but it was extra calories we didn't need if we were going to pay extra for. Any specialty dish I should know about? Is this place a little louder, more crowded compared to the Dining Room?

Sorry, it's getting late, so that's all I can think of for now! Thanks!

  1. Masa's would be a fine choice for your 41st. I actually celebrated my 40th birthday there and it was fabulous. You will have a perfect time. You might even want to mention that it is a birthday celebration upon making your reservations.

You really can't say this place is loud at all...just the opposite. I would say it is on par with the Dining Room...very sophisticated dining. There shouldn't be any hidden costs that you don't agree to. Wine is not included in the cost of the tasting menu. As I recall, there is a separate wine tasting cost. Happy Birthday!

Thanks for the info! I just reserved a table for us.

    2. For what it's worth, here's my report from a couple of years ago: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/35573.

As for tasting menus, we had a wonderful meal at Cyrus a few months ago, if you're willing to go that far.
