good espresso in Alhambra?

just moved to Alhambra (near Valley and Garfield) and have already found the Starbucks on each block. Is there a coffee shop nearby where I can get a decent espresso or fresh cup of full-bodied brewed coffee? Within walking distance (10 blocks) would be great. Home brewing is not an option with my current housing situation. Thanks!

More than a 10 block walk, but a short drive-

    Fresh Roast
    308 S San Gabriel Blvd.

They roast their own and have espresso and siphon-brewed coffee.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'll definitely try them this week.

As to why no home brewing- I'm currently renting a room in a house and have very limited kitchen privileges.

      Thanks again!

I can't believe no one mentioned the best coffee in LA!

Aqua did mention it, but they don't sell cups of coffee at the factory.

Most of the Vietnamese cafés in Alhambra make good French-press coffee. Usually nice and strong and sweetened with condensed milk. Ask for cà phê sữa nóng'

And if you prefer to forgo the condesnsed milk, you can ask for "ca phe den nong". I usually ask for that with ice, "ca phe den da".

Curious as to why home brew isn't an option... french presses aren't that pricey & easy to maintain. But I digress . . .

Alas, not much of a coffee scene in that part of alhambra. Asides from Starbucks & Coffee Bean, there is the iBrowse the other person mentioned -- if a short drive is do-able, try for Zona Rosa in Pasadena.

Alhambra also has La Mill coffee, one of the better roasters in town, but beyond walkable from Garfield/Valley and I'm not sure if they actually serve coffee.

I'm sure it isn't the only non-starbucks place in town, but the only one I know of is iBrowse on Main between Garfield and first. But that may be too far to walk.
