In what do you use flaxseed oil?

I just bought a bottel of flaxseed oil (for the first time) and am curious as to how you incorporate it in different ways into your daily diet. I am interested in starting to use this regularly - I don't know what took me so long!

Last night I drizzled some over farro and we enjoyed it that way... but that's not very creative. Any suggestions?

  1. As I understand it, you are not supposed to heat flax oil or you loose the benefits (omega threes). I use it to on salads- I think it has a nice nutty flavor. Or mix it one to one with walnut oil. Be sure to keep it refrigerated because it goes rancid quickly at room temp.
    I hope others have more ideas!

      I've just put it in salad dressing too -- I got a bottle that was really lovely in its nutty flavor.
      A little in a nutty-friendly breakfast cereal (or millet and the like) sounds good.

      I'm thinking that using it on cooked items but not actually heating it would be okay in terms of the omega threes. And I'm thinking a drizzle on cooked asparagus would be nice.
      Where else would one use walnut oil other than salad dressing? I'm thinking it would be the same as flax in terms of flavor -- except flax doesn't have the bitter undertone of walnut.

          I put mine in smoothies too. Not crazy about the taste.

        I too add mine to a smoothie but also whisk into a vinagrette, 1 tsp for every T of e.v.o.o.
