Great pie in White Mountains and/or Maine coast?

My husband and I are traveling through New Hampshire's White Mountain area (Littleton, Jackson), then across to Bar Harbor and down the coast of Maine. We'd love to find some great pie, especially here in New Hampshire. We've seen the postings here for places along the lower coast of ME, but are wondering about further up. Any suggestions?

  1. Helen's in Ellsworth and Machias has very good pie. I had a piece of divine coconut cream last weekend.

    1. I had a really good piece of wild blueberry pie once at the Harraseeket Lobster Co. in Freeport, ME. And Moody's Diner in Waldoboro (about an hour north of Freeport on Route 1) makes a great 4-berry pie.

      1. Valley View Orchards in Hebron, Maine makes pretty good pies. They use local fruit and have a nice, tasty crust. I highly doubt you will be going through Hebron on your trip, but they sell their pies to lots of farm stands and apple orchards. They have a email address on their website to find out where they do sell to:

        1. Thanks for the suggestions! We tried to find Valley View Orchards but didn't get enough info pre-drive and figured we'd see signs in Hebron, but didn't. Too bad.
Went to Helen's in Ellsworth and thought the pie was horrible. Uneven mixture of cinnamon sugar in my blueberry pie made it overwhelming and dry in spots and tasteless in others.
Best pie we found was at Moody's Diner. Soooo tasty! Had the 4-berry pie and took along a piece of walnut pie for breakfast. Great fillings and great crust, too!
Also had really great cranberry apple pie at the White Mountain Cider Co on Rte 302 in NH--plus the bonus of the freshest-tasting cider to go along with it!

          Thanks again!
