The Homestead

I know it's not foodie heaven - in the middle of nowhere and set meal plans and all but we're headed for a meeting in two weekends (it is lovely this time of year) and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. thanks!

  1. You can't imagine how beautiful it is! The golf is outstanding, and the food will be good if you go with the flow - what's good, local and Virginian. The most gentile people have been going there for 100 years, so step back in time, and enjoy what is offered. Try the spa baths that brought people there for their sulphuric rejuvination, horseback ride, try archery or fishing (I've not been there for awhile, but always afternoon tea with music was a delight ) - pretend to be Virginians, and you will ejoy!

    1. My wife and I went there on our honeymoon. It is one of the most beautiful places you will ever see but you don't go there for the food. Breakfast was the best meal of the day. The rest was forgettable.

      1. We have found that Sam Sneads has better food than the dining room. It is more casual and you miss the whole grand dining room experience but it is worth going across the street for a dinner or two.

thanks. i was wondering about that since it seemed nice when we walked over but that was an exceptionally bad night for me. i appreciate everyones input. have been to the inn once before but i was about 10 weeks pregnant and it could have been the best food in the world and it would have still been awful so i can't make any reasonable judgement. :)
