PHX: Downtown Updates

A few miscellaneous observations from experiences this week:

-- Yasda Bento on Adams Street has a nice new sign up front. It used to be much harder to find.
-- Right next door, La Mesa Pit BBQ has closed. That's unfortunate. It was an interesting mix of Mexican food and barbecue and was packed the one time I visited.
-- The storefront that used to house La Mesa Pit BBQ now has a "Coming Soon -- Thai Basil" sign in the window. My guess is that this is a second location rather than a move from Thai Basil's current location in Tempe.
-- Royal Coffee Bar, a very funky place on Jackson Street behind the jails, appears to be expanding its menu and hours. I didn't get much detail beyond that.

    Update to the update:

La Mesa's breakfast menu (breakfast burritos) is now offered around the corner at Foccacia Fiorentina from 6 AM until 10:30 AM on weekdays. The lunch menu, however, is gone with the actual La Mesa restaurant, which closed on October 5.

Just down Adams Street, Nick's 101 Bistro has closed. There are signs promising an imminent reopening under new management. The signs refer to "101 Bistro" without mention of "Nick" (Nick Ligidakis). This development is not surprising since he is known for opening and closing restaurants with astonishing frequency.

winedubar, do you know anything about the extended hours sb mentioned? as downtown is a drive for us, open late or on weekends helps a lot (another reason why we love lux).
