Good food near Culver City galleries?

There's a grouping of galleries near the old Helms Bakery along Washington, near Fairfax, in Culver City. Are there any good eats within walking distance of there? Midday Monday-Saturday is what's needed, since that's when they're open. Thanks.

  1. Hi redrover,
If you don't mind about about a good 5 block block passed Bluebird Cafe if your heading there from Helms (heading towards National from Washington from Beacon) turn left on National, pass Bluebird and it's just passed Hayden on your right.
Went there yesterday and can't wait to go back on Sat.
Great splits of wines, good beers, quality ingredients...great walk. They are open till 7pm on weekdays, only till 3pm on Sat.
Here's their site but it's probably still off since enough people conplained about what a pain in the ass it was to try to navigate it.

Here is the link about the place.

And of course, there's Bluebird Cafe, but only Monday through Friday for breakfast, lunch, and some pretty darned good cakes and cupcakes.

Beacon is in the Helms Bakery building complex off Washington and Helms. And directly across from Beacon is a French-style cafe - don't recall the name but the pastries and bagettes are quite good.

Wilson is in the MODAA Building (designed by Pugh and Scarpa) and is further east along Washington - nice interior and food to match.

Thanks, Servorg - that's the one...

    2. There are several options. Wilson serves lunch (check their website for days) and has the best food, and is the most expensive resto in the neighborhood. I like La Dij which someone else mentioned. French bistro food, plus for lunch they serve sandwiches and burgers as well. Beacon serves weekday lunch (much better bargain than dinner, I like their chicken curry wrap, yum!) Surfas Cafe has fancy salads and sandwiches. The often overlooked Tea Forest cafe directly across Washington from Beacon has good sandwiches (pre-made, but fresh.) It's kind of zen. There's also the Industry Cafe, which is Ethiopian, on the corner of Melvil and Washington. I have never been except for a beer, but the owners are very nice (I have no idea how the food is though.)

As for Bluebird, if you're spending the day walking up and down Washington, it's actually a bit of a hike. But it's shorter if you cut through the neighborhood. Take McManus south (McManus is the street where the EZ wash is.) There's a park at the end of the street. Cut through that, and voila you're on National almost directly across the street from Bluebird. The new cafe "The Point" is also on National.

Don't forget Mandrake on La Cienega between Washington and Venice if you're in need of a bar. I like it, the drinks are good, some on this board complain they're expensive (around $8 I believe.)
