Cobras & Matadors: Beverly or Los Feliz location?

Which one is better or are they basically the same?

Los Feliz location is larger - so much more comfortable. The wine list there is great and very reasonable. I have always had great service there. One of my staple restaurants.

That is true. So you are able to have extremely bad tapas in a very large, comfortable environment.

I did like that the other location had a wine store attached to it so that you could pick up a bottle for dinner. Is it the same at the Los Feliz location?

there is no store. the store by the Beverly location is owned by Cobras and frankly does not match up to a store like K and L or Silverlake Wine. you might at well buy off their list which tops at about $40 for most reds. I gotta ask - where are there GOOD tapas? I like Cobras food but have not been to Spain - enlighten me.

The Beverly location is just WAY too loud, IMHO. They play the music too loud and the acoustics are terrible.

That said, the food there is better, as is the service. The Los Feliz location is chock-full of snobs in my experience (I've gone at least 5 times and finally gave up). Service is slow and snooty, and while the atmosphere is better than the Bev location, the food is entirely inconsistent. One of my favorites is their lentil dish (green lentils with some sort of ham/pancetta), and one day it's crispy and perfect, another it's saucy and oily...

Wow, if the food is better at the Beverly location then the food at the Los Feliz location must be really bad because I have been to a lot of tapas places and was not impressed w/ the food at the Beverly location. There must be a better Spanish Tapas restaurant that is hip and fun other than this place in LA! Anyone, anyone???

It's better, which is not saying much. I would skip it all together if it were me.

For some strange reason, I have eaten at both branches within the last two weeks. Overall, I prefer the Los Feliz branch because you can hear your table mates talk and the food at the Beverly location was way too sweet (the savory dishes!). However, they put less sauce on the food at the Los Feliz branch and some of their sauces are pretty good. Bill was cheaper at Beverly since we could bring our own wine.

I kinda like the cozy feel of the Beverly location; the only problem is that you can't drink wine if you're sitting out on the sidewalk. And the wine shop next door also serves beer if that's your taste and times being what they are. From that Beverly location, you can also stroll to BLD or Milk for dessert.

They are both comparable in terms of food. The branch on Beverly is smaller/more cramped and you have to get wine from the shop next door. The branch in Los Feliz is a bigger space with a wine list.

Avoid both if you like tapas.
