I've had good hamburger buns from Lombardi's.

    2. Good flavours, if not super authentic.
      Very friendly and reasonable.

      Namaste Cafe
      1390 N McDowell Blvd, Petaluma, CA 94954

      1. re: Robin Langton

Namaste Cafe is undergoing an owner change....two families instead of the group of four. The cooks are the same except for the original head cook.
Food is spicier.... waitstaff is larger and friendlier...
New name will be Everest Kitchen

BTW folks in Petaluma might object to Rohnert Park, Penngrove and Cotati being considered a part of Petaluma (and visa versa). Each of the four communities are distinct and different...

        1. re: drmimi

Really...like 5 minutes in the car different...realistically..live and love.

          1. re: Robin Langton

I live in Petaluma.... even the East and West siders see themselves differently:)
5 minutes is different-- Penngrove teenie tiny and very country, Cotati - funky and small more like a college town- full of taverns, neat coffee houses and small resturants (very anti chain), Rohnert Park-- more chains and a few small restuarants-- but more than you realize.
Petaluma-- town of "keep Petaluma eggscentric:)"
Reminds me of the constrasting flavors of neighborhoods in Chicago- my hometown...

      2. Lolita's Mexican place on Lakeville Highway. Small Mexican market with outstanding taqueria inside, also excellent birria.

        1. re: poulet_roti

I second Lolita's! Just ate there weekend before last and had two chicken mole enchiladas, and my husband had the same. We kept talking about how even the rice and beans were just especially good. The chips and salsa were addictive. I even consider this a destination place for the best Mexican taqueria fare. The market is fascinating too. I'm making plans to meet my foodie friends from Berkeley there so we can eat and shop.

        2. Chinatown - Kentucky and Washington

We went for the first time tonight and it was great. Handmade potstickers and Mu Shu, good soup and main dishes - great value for money. Must go, relaxed, Chinatown in Petaluma..Awesome.

          Enjoy Robin.

          1. re: Robin Langton

also you can ask specifically to for them to not cook with MSG-- beware if you are sensitive...
they also have a nice banquet area upstairs for large parties..

          2. Aside from strip mall Chinese. nothing too exciting that I've found (I'm a Petaluma Hound). But as has been pointed out in articles, strip mall Chinese should be good to draw food to draw people into a strip mall. Check 'em out.

            1. re: mpalmer6c

Wow, I think of Petaluma as a real chowhound time. I've actually driven there for some food.

You don't like Lombardi's, Petaluma Creamery, Della Frattoria (a great bakery, imo), Aram's Cafe, or any of the restaurants on this list?

              1. re: rworange

Thanks rworange! As a Petaluman, I am glad someone mentioned the above places....
There are lots of places to try-- just have to get past the "it's in a strip mall" thing-- many nice surprises...

                1. re: drmimi

I think Water Street Bistro is so good for lunch that it's a place I make sure to take visitors to.

                  1. re: Mick Ruthven

Also for a good lunch-- Dempsey's -- the resturant faces the Petaluma river. However you have to "gasp" come in via the strip mall that has the Grocery Outlet-- on East Washington just before water street.

            2. This is my list from last year, so not as current as it might be. Follow up with a search on Chowhound and at the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat website. Either Jeff Cox or Michele Anna Jordan have reviewed all of these, and their reviews have specific recommendations of dishes.

Cucina Paradiso — good Italian trattoria

Water Street Bistro — chef Stefanie Rastetter used with the Daniel Patternson at Babette’s. She’s talented. Breakfast and lunch only, I think.

              Papas

              Graffiti

Central Market (emphasis on slow food, with New Orleans style)

              Bricks (thin-crust pizza)

              The New Yorker Pizza Restaurant
3 Petaluma Blvd North, just north of B Street, near The Mystic, (707) 762-7595

              1. Thang Long has a location just east of the freeway. Best Pho' between Santa Rosa and San Francisco, IMHO.
