Best Birthday Cake?

  • c

My boyfriend's birthday is this weekend and I'm looking for a good place to order a cake from. I'm not interested in Finale. Any suggestions?

  1. Quebrada in Arlington and Wellesley. Excellent Cakes.

    1. Rosie's in Inman Square
      Lyndells in Ball Square
Toscanini's (ice cream cake) outside of Central Square

        I LOVE josephs in Southie

hands down the best cake I ever ate

      2. I'd also recommend Party Favors in Brookline

        1. Party Favors for sure - but for something less rich and decadent but just as pretty and sweet . . . Eldo Cake House in chinatown. My family has been getting birthday cakes here for years - perfect spongecake, layered with fresh strawberries and an amazing whipped cream frosting.
JP Licks for ice cream cake!

          1. SUSU'S BAKERY BOUTIQUE in Wellesley...Delicious and sophisticated confections.
While you are there, pick up some of her scones for breakfast!

            1. This Takes The Cake on Hancock Street in Quincy produces a fine birthday cake.

              1. My husband's work people order cakes from Royal bakery in Cambridge. They had some awesome-looking strawberry whip cream cakes in the place yesterday.

                1. Athan's bakery. I had their Jamaica cake for my birthday - Chocolate and cherries. It was divine.

                  1. Lyndell's is our usual spot, but I have to say, the last cake I had from Icing on the Cake was fantastic - I'd go there sometime as well.

Also have to put in a plug for my favorite independent pasty-maker/baker - Betty Pang who runs a business out of her home called "Bettisserie." Her web site is:

                    http://www.bettisserie.com/AboutUs.html

I haven't had anything made by her that isn't incredibly fresh (for my husband's b-day in Sept., she made one of her pecan tarts and got up at 4 a.m. to do it - this woman has a day job) and absolutely delicious.

                    1. My best friend got me a birthday cake from South End Buttery. It was fantastic!

                      1. For a delicious twist: chocolate carrot cake from Blue Frog Bakery in Jamaica Plain.

                        1. I 2nd Quebrada, Rosie's, and The Icing on the Cake. I haven't had a cake from The Icing in a while, but my family used to order from them for nearly every occasion - they do a really beautiful job.

                          1. I pretty much agree with all suggestions so far. To add a couple, both Japanese-style cakes: Japonaise Bakery (1020 Beacon St, Brookline), and Cafe Cakes (51 Galen St, Watertown).

                            1. Quebrada for their strawberry shortcake. But you should call in advance to order one. Konditor Meister for their carrot cake.
