need Georgetown lunch recommendation

  • 3

I need a recommendation for lunch in Georgetown. For those New Yorkers, I am looking for something like Union Square Cafe, Balthazar, or Gotham Bar and Grill. Basically, a nice high end place for lunch and cocktails. Thank you

  1. I've only been to Balthazar on your list, but I've heard of the other two. Mendocino Grill would work. Hook in Georgetown is new -- seafood. Excellent. Those are probably the two best restaurants in Georgetown at the moment. Cafe Milano, known better for "see and be seen" than the food, would also be considered high end.

I lived in DC for two years before moving back to Manhattan, and go back occasionally. Cafe Milano is a bit of a scene, but in terms of food can be good if you stick to the appetizers and pastas. Beware of the prices of specials/bottled water, etc. However, my recommendation for you is to head to "Upper Georgetown" and go to Bistrot Lepic, a lovely small bistrot with excellent food at reasonable prices. It is the one place in DC that I wish I could transport to Manhattan - we used to go every weekend for lunch. It is not as "high end" as the places in NY that you mentioned, which I've been to, and is much smaller, but worth a visit IMHO. You will need a reservation. Love the risotto with snails and the one with lemon - varies depending up on the season, the smoked trout, the grilled trout, the pigs feet, and my husband loved their kidneys.

Georgetown is so beautiful in the fall, and there are nice shops on the walk up Wisconsin Avenue, include A Mano, which has beautiful tableware.

I 2nd the Hook recommendation. Excellent, simple preperations with a focus on substainable seafood.
