Coffeeshop suggestions

Chew on That Oct 9, 2007 05:04 PM

I'm looking for a new coffee shop around Chicago or the Northwest suburbs. I just graduated college in May and have been going through withdrawal from my campus coffee shops. I'm looking for quality lattes with lots of froth...

While there are many fine coffee shops around Chicago. I'll suggest three:

The premier latte is found at Metropolis (1039 W Granville Ave (773) 764-0400). They roast their own coffee and have extremely well trained baristas.

Bourgeois Pig on Lincoln/Fullerton/Halsted has good lattes and acts as campus coffee shop for DePaul. They have the largest tea selection in the city (I believe) as well as soups, sandwiches, and relaxed ambiance.

The Fixx Cafe on Sheffield, south of Belmont, has excellent coffee as well as an airy atmosphere. Panes Cafe, across the street, has tasty sandwiches and soups.

Thank you very much! I love the Lincoln park area so those tips are very very helpful. I'll check them out!

I just went to the The Grind in Lincoln Square. I'd thought it would be all pretentious and snotty but I was pleasantly surprised. I got a bagel with feta cheese and pesto spread. It was freshly baked. As it was the day before the marathon, I couldn't have coffee but it did smell good. I plan on going back next weekend so I'll report later .

        The Grind
        4613 N. Lincoln

I second the Grind! I've been going there since they opened and they've always had great coffee and teas. It can be hard to find a seat though, I usually get my coffee to go.

Thanks for the recommendation! Now that I think of it, I've heard of the Grind so now I'll HAVE to check it out when I'm over in that area.

I THIRD the Grind. It's fantastic (and right up the street from my house). I'm sad every day that they don't open until long after 7 a.m. (I leave for work in the NW suburbs at 6:45), but the one time I went there for coffee, it was spectacular.
I'll own up to being a former Starbucks barista, and their drip is just sooooo much better at the Grind. My friend's latté had foam art, which I must give serious props to.
              Heard the food's good, too.

I love the pumpkin muffins at Letizia Natural Bakery at 2144 W. Division. I don't drink lattes, but I'm sure you can ask for extra froth. Nice italian family owned cafe near Ukranian Village. Great deserts, homey atmosphere, and a must for sitting outside on a beautiful warm day (both front and back coffee gardens).

Anyplace that serves Intelligencia coffee is a winner for me.

My favorite coffee in the city is at Metropolis! It's worth the trip up to Edgewater. I also really like Intelligensia when I'm in the loop

I'd recommend Intelligentsia. They are located throughout the city (loop, grant park/millenium park, north near belmont in hollywood...). To me, the coffee from Metropolis is good...but Intelligentsia is better, and fresher.

Thanks again everyone! Love the suggestions. Anyone know of any good ones closer to the Northwest suburbs too?
