I'm homesick for Boston and the plethora of gourmet mac & cheese out at restaurants. Does such a thing exist here?

Eat on Dumaine has baked mac and cheese as a side. Not too gourmet, but very good modern comfort food.

Also, Delmonico offers baked mac and cheese as well. I believe they have lobster mac and cheese as a side for Sunday Brunch.

Jack Dempsey's on Poland Ave. does a very cheesy and rich mac-n-cheese with their wonderful fried seafood selections.

Boston Trend Watch: Mac 'n' Cheese

With summer gone, menus have gone wild for the mac 'n' cheese revival. South End hot spot Beehive dishes it out with lobster and asparagus. Dorchester's Ashmont Grill gussies up baked macaroni and three cheeses – Gorgonzola, cheddar and Monterey Jack – with sun-dried tomatoes. Recently opened Coda in the South End adds crispy pancetta and wild mushrooms to its version laden with an aged cheddar sauce, while in Kenmore Square Eastern Standard does it up with the classic Béchamel sauce and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Finally, for those in-the-know, Downtown's Silvertone Bar & Grill is mac 'n' cheese central year-round, serving it simply with a bread-crumb topping.
