Blue Point Crabs Report

I got a bushel of crabs from Blue Point Crab House on Orleans Street (near Patterson Park) this weekend. $150 for mixed number ones. They were steamed to order hot and heavy. Maybe six to seven dozen crabs. No real jumbos but no smalls either. Interestingly you can order pickers crabs for $15 per dozen. Described as thin shelled. This seems to indicate that they sort out the light crabs rather than include the lights in the regular mixes. A good practice. This is the best time of year for crabs so go set them now.

  1. Thanks for the report. I absolutely agree that late Sept./early Oct. is tops for steamed MD blue crabs: meaty and big. Sadly, most locals only associate crabs with summer.
