Romantic Dinner Suggestions?
partner turns 50 - Dec. 2nd - I went to make reservations at Per Se - booked - (can't determine if I'm dissapointed or relieved). What do hounders suggest? Have already eaten and LOVED both Bouley and Eleven Madison Park. Two criteria - while we love food - 1) ambiance is as important to us ( i know blaspheme <g>) also 2) he is slowly going deaf so less noise is better. I always appreciate the opinions on this board.

re: druz99
I know people on this board have pretty consistently reviewed it negatively, but One if by Land, Two if by Sea is one of my and my girlfriend's favorite romantic places. when we went there this past valentine's day, we grabbed a drink at the downstairs bar by the piano beforehand, then got a table upstairs by the fireplace. we got wine pairings with each course of our prix fixe, and although the place was packed with other couples when we came in, we were somehow among the last people there, and it wasn't loud at all. the waiter was really polite and gave us a lot of attention. just a great memory, if not for the food. i would agree the beef wellington there is not the great special they make it out to be...

I agree with the Degustation rec and I'd also like to add Cru in there. The food is fantastic and the wine list is out of this world. I would also consider it romantic. I think I even enjoyed it more than my visit to Eleven Madison!

re: calconscious
Thanks, Cal! I do have a soft spot in my heart for Magnolia...
As for your post, this may sound cheesy, but I feel like a "romantic atmosphere" is all in the eye of the beholder. To me, some romantic restaurants are: August, 15 East (I love the dimly-lit, clean and modern atmosphere), Keen's Steakhouse (I think an old-fashioned atmosphere is super romantic), Perbacco and Pylos. I honestly think that Keen's may work perfectly for you all. It's a very special place and there is much more on the menu than red meat. :)-

re: LeahBaila
Agree romantic is often a personal thing. I really like Pylos alot but it can be lively and get noisy. Might not work re: the hearing issue mentioned. There is only one corner table (by the mirror and candles) in the back room of Pylos that I would consider romantic. Not in same league as Bouley or EMP.
We just went to Danube and it was very romantic. I have mixed feelings about the restaurant.
What about Degustation?
