I started going to what was then just the Busy Bee, gulp, 40 years ago. My biggest memory was of the giant bakery cookies. If you are going to go to Busy Bee and need an ice cream fix, I highly recommend Every Day's a Sundae about a block away. They serve the excellent Sherman's Dairy ice cream.

I've also heard great things through the years about Lindstrom's Bakery in downtown Westmont.

Kirschbaum's Bakery in Western Springs is an older bakery that is supposed to be very good...I have not been there, but one of my co-workers who's from Hinsdale speaks highly of it. It's located right near the train tracks on Burlington near the Casey's in WS.

The Plush Horse in Palos Park is always a favorite.

Palos Park is quite a ways from Oakbrook.

The Upper Crust bakery in downtown Lisle by the traintracks is fantastic. Can be a little pricey, but everything is incredible. They always have a ton to choose from. Owner is Polish and the polackys are the best we've ever had.

Banana Bakery in Weschester has both baked goods and ice cream. It's about 5 minutes from Oakbrook Terrace.

Toni Marie's in Hinsdale (on Washington St. I believe) is famous bakery for the area. Really great stuff.

I have to disagree about Toni Marie's. Although there cakes are stunningly beautiful, I have yet to taste anything that is above average. You'd do better off going to Omega Restaurant in Downers and grabbing something off of their bakery shelves.

Petersens in Oak Park has been around for decades. It's a diner, bakery, ice cream parlor all in one. Great stuff!

The restaurant and bakery of Petersons closed earlier this year. The casual ice cream side is still open.

Not sure what you're looking for but the coffee cakes and the coffee cake slices with fruit here were very fresh. I had plum and peach recently and it tasted homemade.
