KS Roadtrip - OP to Hoisington - Suggestions?
I'm planning to drive four hours from Overland Park KS to Hoisington KS, and wondered if there were any interesting food places I could check out along the way. If anyone knows of intriguing food places along I-70 W or KS-156, maybe a classic diner or a small town bakery or something along those lines, please advise.
Thanks in advance.

There are several possibilities along your route. Among the ones I am familiar with are The Cozy Inn in downtown Salina for hamburgers. Similar to White Castle and Krystals, they have been around for about eighty years. Grab a sackful.
On old Hwy 40 just west of Abilene is Mr. K's Farmhouse Restaurant. We have enjoyed chicken fried steak there. Be sure to leave room for pie.
My mother-in-law in Abilene has spoken favorably about a place in downtown Talmage which is open weekends only. Talmage is just northwest of Abilene.
Free State Brewery on Massachusetts in downtown Lawrence is always a worthwhile stop - if that's not too close to home.
Another place (further out of your way, but worth a visit) is The Breadbasket in downtown Newton. It is on Main a block south of the railroad tracks which go through the middle of town. They barely have a sign because everyone knows where they are. They serve lunch daily and on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday lunch serve a fantastic German (think Mennonite) buffet. Very reasonable and worth a drive. On our last trip to Abilene, we had Friday dinner at The Breadbasket and will probably return there for a meal on our next trip to Abilene. Newton could be reached by taking I-35/US 50 west to Newton, then on to Hoisington - or the reverse on the return trip.
