In restaurants I'm the king of doggie bags. I enjoy all kinds of food, but in small portions. That's why I like tapas, dim sum, sushi etc. But I have two questions. What other foods come in portions you can order in small quantities? And - What restaurants, prefererably in the Beaches or Scarborough Southwest serve small portions? Thanks for any suggestions.

Although I can't answer your question directly, I believe that many restaurants would accommodate your request for a smaller portion. Is this something you've tried in the past?

I'm like you. I'd rather have a taste of a lot of different items than one big honking pile of one thing. And I get full fast, so big portions, as well as all-you-can-eat buffets, are a waste for me.

Ordering a few different appetizers and splitting an entree works well sometimes, although can also be problematic, see this thread -

I don't have any suggestions for alternatives but thought I'd mention Relish, a tapas place just outside your criteria at Woodbine and Danforth, but which a friend recommended to me and has received some positive mentions on the board (although I haven't been myself).

If you don't mind all the food being vegan, i suggest Fressen, but it is out of your area. It is pretty much just a vegan tapas bar. every plate is $9.

If you are ok with leftovers, you can do what I often do. I eat the appetizer and salad along with whatever complimentary table offering and/or bread is presented. If I am too full to tackle the entree, I'll have it wrapped to go. I will then often have room for dessert. Makes for an enjoyable and economical alternative to overeating at one sitting.

Mezzetta on St. Clair west is a mediterrean tapas (mezzes) resto that does stunning dips, marinated veggies, kabobs, fallafel, salads etc. Sooooooo good.

Thanks, all of you, for the useful answers. For one thing I didn't notice Relish, the tapas bar at Danforth and Woodbine, even though I often drive past there. The door is still open for other suggestions. For convenience here's a repeat of my original post:

Relish is relaxed, reasonably priced, and has great food. Couldn't recommend it more as an east end option.

Honestly I think you've exhausted the style choices for small portions. Since my girlfriends and I are also small eaters, we typically just split everything. One of each course split between two small eating women does the trick every time. Mind you we seldom dine on steak when together. Anyway I guess I'm saying go where you like and bring a friend.
