Help me pick a restaurant

nattie23nyc Oct 4, 2007 02:11 PM

Fiance's parents are coming in from Philly and want to go to dinner at one of the following:

L'Impero (my suggestion, I think it's amazing)

Or (from what they're read in NY Mag or other places):

Cafe Boloud
Aurora Soho

Suggestions? Anyone have a report on the other 3 places?

What is "Bobo"? Do you mean Babbo (Batali's) or Bolo (Flay's)?

Whatever you do, don't go to Bobo--poor service and mediocre food. It's much more about the scene than the food.
Aurora Soho is good but uneven. May be a little loud for your fiance's parents.

        HI Lucia,

So there is really a restaurant called Bobo? Sorry for my ignorant question....

Where is this restaurant and what is it like, if you don't mind shedding some light?

Yes, Bobo is a new "Bourgeois Bohemian" restaurant in the West Village. I have never eaten there, but here's a link to the NY Mag write-up:

L'Impero *is* amazing, as is Cafe Boulud, which still sticks out as one of the best lunches of my life, four years ago (the first time I went). I have never been disappointed there. You may like to look into Eleven Madison Park- I haven't made it there yet, but it gets raves here for the food, and definitely has great "NY wow" factor. The same price range as Boulud and L'Impero, I don't know Aurora.

You are not correct when you say L'Impero is in the same price range as EMP and Cafe Boulud; it's decidedly less expensive. For example, L'Impero's 4-course dinner prix-fixe is $65, while EMP's is $96. A substantial difference!!

I agree that all have superb cuisine, stellar service, and wonderful ambiance.

oohhh I just LOVE Cafe Boulud!! One of my favorite places. DOn't care much for Aurora Soho and have never been to Bobo.

Great, polised service at Cafe B, and the food is fabulous!

          Have fun!

I would highly recommend L'Impero. Great food, great service, and usually does not require a 3 month wait for a reservation. Their prix fixe menue is a great value, and even the location feels special (if you are driving make sure to get exact directions).
