Toffee bits for baking-need to find some in Manhattan

vvvindaloo Oct 4, 2007 08:01 AM

Can someone please advise as to where in Manhattan I can purchase some hard English butter toffee pieces for baking? I used to buy the bags of Heath bits all the time, right in the supermarket baking section (where the bags of chocolate chips are), but they have become harder and harder to find. Thanks in advance.

No idea if they have it, but you could try NY Cake & Baking on W.22nd st (b/n 5th and 6th, closer to 6th). They have a website: http://www.nycake.com/index.asp
This store has tons of fun stuff.

If you don't find them, just take several Heath bars or Skors bars. Put them in a heavy duty freezer Ziploc bag and hit them with something hard like a meat pounder or rolling pin, or whatever.... and you will get the same bits as in the bag.

Oh yes, and if there are any largish chunks, the cook eats them. That's the rule. ;-)

Believe me, I would, but I am looking for non-chocolate-covered toffee. Just toffee bits. They used to be sold everywhere.... thank you for responding, though.
