birthday dinner for eight

i posted on manhattan also, but i want a fun/casual place for dinner for eight people. he is on the hunt for the best burger, but also loves french and italian. somewhere around $40 pp would be great. he already recently went with a group to bonnies, so i think that's out

2 places that come to mind are Downtown Atlantic and the Waterfront Ale House, both on Atlantic. Downtown Atlantic is more a casual restaurant, with a wide-ranging menu; the Ale House is more a bar with really good food. I think both would easily fit your price range.

The Good Fork can handle parties of eight on their back porch. $40pp might be tough, though. You might talk to the folks at Bar Tabac about their back room: I've never done it myself, but I've seen parties of eight back there.
