BBQ Catering on the Central Coast

Hi everyone,
We're getting married in Nipomo, CA next August and are looking for a caterer who rocks the BBQ pit (Santa Maria Style). Hoping to find someone who provides upscale BBQ and interesting appetizers. Any Suggestions in the area from Santa Maria up through Paso? Anyone been at an event catered by Testa Catering (Santa Maria) and McGee's Catering from Atascadero? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  1. What do you have in mind when you say BBQ? tri tip?

Ray Cattaneo does a great BBQ--his family has been in the business locally for years. Great reputation.

Chef Ricks does great catering--very adventersome food--not nec.SMS BBQ tho'

Congrats on your big day. Glad you picked the Dana Powers House. Judy is a great gal--and she knows EVERYbody. Does she have a rec for BBQ?

How about using Hitching Post II from Buellton? The menu is a little more adventuresome than the original Hitching Post in Casmalia. (Most SMSBBQ is not 'upscale', it's cowboy BBQ.) HPII is only about 40 minutes south of Nipomo.

Thanks Toodie! I haven't heard of any of those caterers and I've been to the Hitching Post, but hadn't thought of that either. While we're at it. Do you have any suggestions for good pizza/Italian places in the SLO area....possibly one that has a separate area/private room where we could hold a rehearsal dinner? We're trying to do the pizza/salad buffet thing so we can afford for everyone to attend. Or maybe a Mexican place? We were thinking Woodstocks until we actually ate-in there and saw that is very much a college bar. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated :)

Upper Crust Trattoria in SLO is a possibility. Decent pizza and very good salads. The patio could seat a small group nicely.

Most local Mexican sit-down restaurants are open rooms w/o privacy. Very ho-hum food as well.

The taco trucks and Deli-Mex's of Santa Maria are a few minutes away from Nipomo. The trucks could deliver to you if you had a location. You could do a very casual picnic dinner at Nipomo Community Park (nice picnic tables, large pine trees, lots of lawn and a tot lot)
