Custom/wedding cakes in Vancouver
Hi Everyone.
I'm a first-time poster/long-time food enthusiast in Vancouver and I'm desperately trying to find the ultimate birthday cake. None of the cakes I've tried from the assortment of excellent local bakeries (including Ganache, La Petite France, Fratelli, Notte's Bon Ton, even Thomas Haas) quite fit the bill. I'm looking for something rich, chocolately (and definitely butter-based) and beautiful.
Can I ask if anyone on the board has tried any of the local independent wedding cake makers? I've found a number of them online (I've been looking at Sweet Thea, Jill Duggan, and Cause for Celebration amongst others) but, without personal recommendations, or the time before the event to doing a dozen tasting, I'm reaching out to you.
Please help!

Hi again.
Thanks to you all for your helpful suggestions! In the end, I ordered a cake from Jill Duggan Cake Studio (www.jillduggan.com) and it was FANTASTIC. She did a wonderful job.

I usually get my birthday cakes from Culinary Cakes

My pick: Chocolate blackout cake with mascarpone mousse, dolce de leche and brandy syrupI tried the Passionfruit cake (as a cupcake) from Cause for Celebration yesterday! Yummo. The cake was so light and the filling delicious.

I recently ordered cakes from Sweet E's in Kerrisdale and La Baguette et l'Echalote on Granville Island. Form the latter bakery, we ordered their signature chocoalte ganache cake, and everyone who tried it said that they enjoyed it very much. I am not a huge chocolate fan, so didn't bother. The Sweet E's cake wasn't chocolate based, but they do have a selection of chocolate cakes, and they may be able to work with you on it. Their cakes are more modern, absolutely delicious and beautiful. And the people there are great.
good luck.
