Low Key but Yummy for Saturday

Some of my college friends and I will be having a mini reunion dinner. Where can we go for a good meal in an un-rushed setting? Union Square or nearby preferred.

I would automatically say Shack Shack, though it doesn't have the outward appearance of being veg-friendly. Is that shroom burger any good anyhow ?

Regardless, Madison Sq Park would be handy to lounge in without anyone bothering you.

Specifics would help. Cuisine preferences? Casual or fancier? Per person budget? And tell us if that figure includes alcoholic beverages, tax & tip.

Any cuisine would work. There is one vegetarian in the group. As for budget, maybe $10-25 entrees with a max of $75 for meal, beverages, tax and tip.

I would suggest Campanile, on 29th St., b/t Madison & Park Av. S. It's what I like to describe as a neighborhood "hidden gem." The traditional Italian fare served there is delicious and, as is generally the case with Italian restaurants, there are vegetarian-friendly options on the menu. Service is friendly and competent. The overall ambiance is relaxed and pleasant. If you are looking for a hip spot with loud, thumping music, this is definitely not it. But if you want a place that's low-key where you can talk around the table in normal tones, and where you won't be rushed out, Campanile is perfect!
