What is the best restaurant for people watching? Must also have good food.

    I often get a kick out of the diversity of the crowd at Zuni, especially after opera or symphony performances when you'll have hipsters in jeans and T-shirts at one table and people in black tie at the next.

      I'd have to agree with this; my wife and I were amazed at the diversity in terms of age, dress and attitude. It was quite a scene. And the chicken is every bit as good as it ought to be, given all of the fame. Also the oysters, best in town outside of Hog Island, in my opinion.

      Vik's in Berkeley has always been a favorite people-watching place of mine. You literally get all kinds.....

      (Women in saris; Berkeley students; hippies; young; old....etc.....)
