Trax in Ambler - Anyone ever been?

Going out with another couple here later this month. Any opinions? Thank you.

  1. Never heard anything good about it. Does it have to be Ambler?

What does that mean? Have you ever heard anything bad about Trax? It sounds like you have an issue with them. I have been there several times and the food nothing short of highest quality, proper proportions, very well prepared, great food, period! Apparently I am not the only one who feels this way. Try getting a table soon. Good luck. You've blown our little secret. Oh, by the way, what's wrong with Ambler?

I have nothing against Ambler, nor do I have an issue with Trax. I asked the question because the recommendation I would have made is not in Ambler. I was going to recommend Allison at Bluebell. As for Trax, I did hear bad things about it from a friend who only visited once. I also read negative reviews on other websites. Mitchh had a blah restaurant experience at Paradigm (I was one of the people who was tempted to warn him against that place but didn't want to appear negative) and I wanted to suggest a place I knew was good. Sorry.

You can recommend Alison all you want and I know you rave about it, but I personally find it to be the most overrated eatery around and will not spend 1 dime there. Even if someone gave me a giftcard I would re-gift it to someone else.

As for my experience at Paradigm, it was the best thing that happened because I wouldn't have found Haru afterwards if we were full after our meal at Paradigm. That said, $100 for 2 apps, dinners, desserts along with a bottle of wine and a martini was just fine.

    2. I absolutely love Trax. The atmosphere is very initiate - small, candlelit, interesting art on the walls (always changing). The patio is a really nice option if weather permits, they have a really pretty garden facing the patio (though it can get noisy outside whenever a train goes by!).

Food is great, I guess you could call it contemporary american. What would I suggest..... Their soups are always great - their pumpkin bisque is my absolute favorite (it might be on the menu now because its in season). I usually get their salmon which is delicous, but their lamb dishes (often on special) are very good. For dessert, I really like their fig tart.

I'm surprised that the previous poster mentioned she had not heard anything good. I never really heard anything bad about Trax. You should do a search on these boards, you can see. The restaurant is very small and not very well known (it really is a hidden gem because it looks like absolutely nothing from the outside) so it definitely does not get alot of buzz.

I really hope you enjoy it, it is one of my favorite local spots!

I appreciate the replies. I'm going on the 27th and will give a report.

We were a little disappointed when we went to Trax, maybe because we had read some rave reviews. Everything was okay, but we thought it was overpriced for the quality of the food.
This is a comment from just one visit, so by all means go and judge for yourself. The regulars no doubt have had a different experience.
