Ithaki in Ipswich
Well, I really wanted to like this place b/c the friends we were meeting there love it. Had a great evening w some hits and misses. Service was initially prompt and efficient by a greek godlike waiter. Apps came a little too quickly and then there was a long wait for the entrees. Felt the appetizers ruled the night but the entrees left me a little disappointed. We had the grilled octopus and greek salad for apps. OMG, the octopus was amazing. Have never had it before and can't wait to have it again. Came w some greens, evoo, some kind of large bean pods. For entrees the gals had cod w a tomatoey sauce, grilled asparagus and mashed potato. The guys had lamb shank over orzo pasta. I was so busy sociallizing that had I read the menu more carefully, I would have ordered something else. The cod was drowning in sauce and I couldn't taste the fish. Normally I would never pair a mild white fish w a tomato based sauce. My friend loved hers though. I took a bite of hubs lamb and found it to be very gamey. Maybe thats how it is suppose to be. He found the dish very rich, heavy and couldn't finish it. Thats unusual. We skipped dessert. The coffee was excellent. Not sure I would go back. Too many places to try.
I liked the grilled octopus, and the shrimp saganaki app.
The roast lamb and the lamb shish kebab are great.
Last time here I had the cider glazed pork chop which was excellent. It came with butternut squash ravioli and sauted spinach.
I haven't tried the mussels here but they look really good.
Nice wine list, and just a great place.
