Dining for 25 (!) in Cape May, NJ. [Moved from Tristate Region board]

  • 6

My fiancee and I are looking to host a small post-Wedding dinner in Cape May. As neither of us have been in the area for a few years, we're looking for some suggestions. It'd be great if they had a small private room for about 25 and/or were friendly to large-ish groups.

We spoke to Union Park who were very friendly and very accommodating. The menu looked great, but I haven't actually chowed there. Do you guys have any suggestions?

  1. I didn't get to any of the top inns, but the restaurant 410 Bank St. was out of this world, both in food and service, just as it had been when I was last there, many years ago. If not better.

There's lots more on Cape May on the Pennsylvania board.

When I was there, a bride and groom rode around town in a decorated horse and carriage and then I saw her later at Cabana's, a very nice bar.

I 'think' her wedding was at the Chalfonte hotel, which looked to be extremely elegant.

Peter Shields is beautiful, not sure of $$$. Also Tisha's, on the water may be able to accomodate.

I was in Cape May both last summer and this summer for six weeks and ate at almost every resturant there.

We just ate at Union Park this past summer and it was very good---not as good ast the first summer it opened which was probably about ten years ago. I would still recommend it but I would highly recommend The Washington Inn even more. They're food is consistently great. The same family has owned the Washington Inn for many years and they have a lot of experience with small weddings. A friend of mine used to be the banquet manager there and always raved about the quality and freshness of their food even when it's a large banquet type of affair.

    2. What time of year? It makes a difference here. And your expectations will guide my / our response. What are you looking for?

Union Park has a lovely private space that will accomodate you, but I have not been there since a change of personnel, and odds are it's still good. Still asking around for oher ideas.

The wedding will be on December 29th, so winter. We're trying to keep it around 35-40 bucks a person if possible. A private space would be really nice. We're not having a reception, per se, so this is the chance to mingle and chat.

The Peter Shields Inn is a beautiful place that hosts many weddings. The food is good but not as great as it was. But given the change in management at Union Park, I can't say that that will be either. Washington Inn is outstanding but I can't see them doing anything for under $100 pp. Another place I really like that could probably accommodate you is Black Duck in West Cape May. It's small and may be able to just host your group. They have an early evening fixed price dinner for $20 that is outstanding so they may be able to accommodate your price point. Understand that all of these places are BYO.
