Classy Bachelorette Dinner?
My friend is a non-traditional, anti-girly, fun-loving bride to be. She will hate anything that mirrors Lucky Chengs, Lips, Waikiki Wally's etc.
Her original choice was Tia Pol for tapas, but the hostess double booked us for our dinner and we got bumped. There are 13 of us going out to dinner to begin her bachelorette party night on November 3. Budget is sensitive as several girls attending are not 'close' friends. A private room would be fun, but is not neccessary.
Ali Baba is a good turkish restaurant in Murray Hill; it has a private garden out back which I believe can be reserved. Pretty inexpensive compared to other options (b/w 10 and 20 dollars for main entrees, ie kebab platters, turkish pizza, etc) Plus you can share apetizer platters with hummus, taboulleh, etc.
if you want to stick with the tapas idea, Alta on 10th street is very good. it's a lot bigger than tia pol, and i've seen large groups there.
bar stuzzichini has very good food and it's a large space, so they fit the bill. and since they do sort of an italian tapas thing, those looking to pinch their shekels should have no problem.
i can't think of an affordable place with a private room, though. good luck!
