New Thai in Foster City

There's a new Thai place in Foster City. Called Sweet Basil. Better than average. So far I have only had Green Curry and Red Curry lunch specials, but the prices are good, the food is fresh and the sauces clearly custom-made. Also they give you a nicely presented little bowl of soup.

Kind of hate to tell everyone, because it's cheap, near the office, good food, and it's already a little crowded at lunchtime:(. But hey, it's for the 'Hounds. Ooh. Just realized I didn't search - perhaps someone has already outed this place....

  1. I also just noticed this place, went there for lunch last week.

I had the Tom Yum noodle soup as well as the chicken won ton soup they give you with every dish (it was a cold day, so all the soup was welcome!).

I was impressed by the flavorful broth of the chicken soup, and enjoyed my Tom Yum as well. The bowls were square (which is a pet peeve), but the food within them is good, which is all that matters.

They seemed genuinely gratified that I was enjoying my soup.

I will definitely go back, and I share your hesitation to spread the word on such a good find.

I only wish they'd do the green papaya salad at lunch...

Green papaya salad, yes that would be nice.

BTW the free soup changes day to day a little bit. So far always a clear broth.

When you need an address, try clicking on "link to a place" on the reply screen to search for it in the Places database and/or in Google. You can add a link to the thread, as here. Voila!

This place is definitely worth a visit.
The soup they give you with most meals is flavorful, and the Tom Kha I ordered was especially good.
Their curries IMO are the best dishes they have. I only wish they had fish dishes that weren't fried.
The owner/chef is very friendly, and the service is friendly as well.
There were only a couple of things I didn't care for: their pad thai didn't really have good flavor, it was almost bland. Perhaps it was an off day. Also their thai ice tea which used to be good seemed muddy.
Overall, it's a good place to add to your weekly lunch routine.
