Urbane Cafe--Morena Blvd. SD

  • 0

The Urbane Cafe has opened in the new retail/apartment complex in the Morena Blvd. district at the corner of Linda Vista Rd. and Napa St. It advertises “gourmet sandwiches, salads, & more.” I was kind of excited about this since it’s down the hill from me and aside from Waters Fine Foods there’s not much good food in the Morena Blvd. corridor.

This establishment is trying to be a good quality, healthy, fast food and take out place and it succeeds. There are over a dozen sandwiches, six salads, and some soups. Most sandwiches are made with a home-baked flat bread and flavored with various types of flavored mayonnaises or aioli (which got my attention). They come with a house salad consisting of spring mix, feta, mandarin oranges, and dressing. Chips, fries, etc. are not offered. The three times I’ve been there the service is fast -- about the same as Carls Jr. across the street. Most sandwiches and salads are about $7. This is the second or third outlet of the Urbane Cafe that first opened in Ventura.

We’ve tried various sandwiches, and while not the gourmet sandwiches of my dreams exactly, they are pretty tasty and noteworthy, especially given the price and convenience. But, of course, the gourmet sandwiches of my dreams are available a couple of blocks away, at Waters and they are also about 7 bucks!
