Clumping WHITE Sugar

marcia2 Oct 1, 2007 04:44 PM

I'm familiar with brown sugar clumping and know how to deal with it. Has anyone ever run into granulated white sugar clumping? I'm assuming it's from moisture, but it's not unusually humid in my kitchen and I keep the sugar in a sealed container. Any ideas on how to unclump it and/or how to prevent it?

You can unclump it by microwaving it for 1 minute on your lowest temp.

I live in the humid Midwest, and I keep sugar in a zip-lock bag, inside the sugar canister.

I live in Florida (swamp) and I have heard that if you put a piece of bread in the sugar it will absorb the moisture and your sugar won't clump. We generally don't use wite sugar so I haven't tried it. Let me know if it works!
