Both new long awaited Oakland Trader Joe's (Lakeshore and College Avenue, Rockridge) are opening October 27.

I doubt if the parking in the Lakeshore area will ever be the same, especially Saturday AM during the Grandlake Farmers Market.

Hmm...according to Councilmemember Pat Kernighan's website:

"The new stores on Lakeshore Avenue are getting close to completion, with a "soft" opening scheduled for the weekend of October 6 and a Grand Opening celebration later in October."

Where was the 27th date published?

I was told to me verbally by the "First Mate" of the College Avenue store at the Rockridge Street Fair on Sunday. She may have been incorrect about the Lakeshore store as it is much futher along than Rockridge and that date suprised me as well - for Lakeshore. I am skeptial about Oct 6, though based on the curent state of th site.

Yesterday hubby and I walked by the Lakeshore location and agree w/ you--we will be VERY surprised if it makes either October 5th (which is what the gentleman at the temp employment trailer told us) OR October 6.

They're working on Lakeshore right now, but not all the Staff has transfered over from other stores yet to complete the stocking & opening process. I'm thinking late October is a good possibility, but nothing is solid yet. I also haven't heard a definite open date for Rockridge either. And yes, parking at both of these stores will be challenging to say the least.(Walk if you can!) I'll keep my ears open and let y'all know more details once I hear anything useful.

I think, I'm still betting on Oct 27 for both stores.

I think October 27th is the definite date for the Rockridge store, because that's what the Trader Joes employees were telling everyone yesterday.

Went to the new Trader Joe's in Rockridge this weekend. I'm so happy it's open and close to my neighborhood!

The store doesn't seem very big despite it being a former Albertson's. I think because the aisle are wider than the old supermarket. I had to hunt a bit more for my staples that I always get there, but I was able to find them.

What was amazing is that I was there at 4 p.m. Saturday and there were no long lines!!! I don't know if it's because it's so new people didn't know it's open, or it was a nice day that people didn't want to go grocery shopping, or because there are now three Trader Joe's in the near 10 mile radius that has reduced the crowds. Whatever the reason, I hope it stays that way because it's nice going into Trader Joes and not have to deal with the stress of standing in the ridiculously long lines. And it didn't look deserted, there were definitely people shopping. But less of a crowd scene, which makes the shopping experience better. We'll see how long that lasts.

Yes, my SO has gone in several times around 3 on weekdays and found no lines. In and out in 5 minutes, lots of parking. He was very happy.
