Years ago, when I lived in Nassau County, I used to go to the Oak Chalet or the Brick Oven in Lynbrook for their sauerbraten special on Weds. Recently, I went to Fred's and Pumpernickel's, both of which disappointed. any rec's?

I've always been a fan of the Black Forest Mill in Central Valley, NY.. Been going there for over a decade. It's slipped a bit over the years but still a fun place.

Once you've gone to Zum Stammtisch, you're not gonna go anywhere else. I have been going since 1985 and never looked back at another German place except when I am on vacation and all those pale in comparison.

I keep hearing about a place called Plattduetsche Park Restaurant in Franklin Square but I've never actually been there: parkrestaurant.com
