Beijing, one chance

celestewoo Sep 30, 2007 08:13 AM

I'll be stopping in Beijing at the end of November for about 8 hours while I wait for my flight back to California. I will have just enough time to get into town, have a fabulous meal, and make my flight out. Any suggestions for a heart stopping feast to end my month in China?

You say "I will have just enough time" and you might be right, but then again...

I've been through the Beijing airport 3 times in the last 2 years. It can take a couple of hours to get through customs and immigration and out the door, and another couple of hours to through security, etc to your gate.

Traffic in Beijing ranges from bad to standstill - 2 weeks ago it took me almost 90 minutes to get from the airport to the CBD. If you're going to do it, I'd try to find a place to eat that's relatively close to the airport. I second the opinion below about the general level of food there - I've had good meals there, but nothing that blew me away (or was worth missing a flight for....)

    Good luck.

Beijing does not have a huge variety of incredible food. I would probably go to a roast duck place (do a search on which one suits you).
