Lower Eastside--What to take back to Philly?

Getting ready for our yearly weekend in New York with our girls. We're taking a cooler this time and filling it with great stuff to Philly. So far on the list: whitefish salad from Russ & daughters, pickles from Gus, and pastrami from Katz's? Any other suggestions while were down there? Also, any suggestions from Zabar's? We'd love some great ruggalch and knishes, too. Thanks for your help. There is no place like New York!

Oh, wow this is great! We're going to need two coolers for everything. I just want to say how much I appreciate everyone who offers their suggestions and experiences. It is just so generous.

If you are going to Zabar's, go to H&H right across the street for some great bagels (though I know some CHers prefer other bagels, I think these are the best). Zabar's also has a terrific cheese selection -- perhaps you'll find something there that you can't get in Philly.

If you can venture a little further north and if you like good bagels, then grab some from Ess-a-bagel on 1st and 21st.

Some smoked salmon from R&D in addition to the whitefish salad. The smoked salmon freezes well, so you can buy a lot and it will not go to waste.

May be knishes from The Original Yonah Schimmel Knishery (137 East Houston St.) and donuts from Donut Planet (if the donuts can travel well?)?

If you have time to visit Essex Market you should be able to find a lot of goodies from there!

I've taken home a few donuts from Donut Plant and kept them for the following day. Definitely not as good as fresh.

Don't forget some bialys from Kossar's. But I wouldn't put those in the cooler.
