American takeout in East Bay?

I am planning to bring over dinner for a couple of elderly friends, and don't want to cook.

Their food preferences are classic American meat-and-potatoes fare, not Gregoire. Is there a decent takeout place in the Berkeley area with this kind of retro food?

Pick up a roasted chicken and sides from Andronico's.

If you want to go that way, both Magnani's and Cafe Rouge have roasted chickens. I think Magnani's also has potatoes and other possibilities. IMHO, I think either would be better than Walker's.

If you want to do takeout from a store, I recommend hightailing it over to Ashby and Telegraph to Whole Foods. SO much tastier than Andronico's. As far as Walker's goes, if they're into classic American almost tasteless, well, I had one of the worst meals of my life there. The pie isn't even good. If you want good pie, stop at Bakesale Betty's.

Or you could just get the chicken pot pie at Bakesale Betty, I haven't had it but people have raved about it on this board.

It will feed four with ease. Comes frozen and takes about an hour to cook. Call ahead to check if they have them.

That's a good suggestion! Throw on a baby romaine salad* with tomatoes and cukes and red French dressing and some Bakesale brownies with ice cream and Hershey's chocolate sauce and you have a real American meal.

                *sorry, just can't do iceberg

When I lived in Albany, my housemates often did takeout from Barney's. There's one on Solano and one on Shattuck, I think.

I presume Walker's Pie Shop will do takeout.
