Figamajigs!

Found these in the energy bar section in NYC's Fairway -

1)Chocolate covered Fig candy, which are bite-size chocolate covered fig bits that look like M & M's but slightly bigger.

2) Chocolate Covered Fig Bar (Dark chocolate)

For all those times that I see candy bars and fig bars (or M&M's for that matter) in a store, get a craving, buy them..to finally eating them, non have met my imagined sense of satisfaction. The candy bars these days don't taste like real food.

So, it is strange, but most wlecomed, that I picked up these two Figamajigs candies, and found that from beginning to end, the whole crave-to-buy-to-consuming process, I felt that I actually got what I craved! Definitely a winner for those who love dark chocolate. For those who love fig bars, these are less "seedy' than the usual fig bar.

The Chocolate covered Fig bars actually taste more like a really rich and tasty browny.

The chocolate covered figs pieces taste like a good version of those jumbo chocolate covered cherries.

These, to me, are the real "energy bars". Deliciousness always gives me a boost!

Trader Joe's has a newish candy - bits of fig covered in dark chocolate - is that the same as this? I've been eyeing those things for a couple months . . .

i don't shop at Trader Joes, so I could tell you. I did have a Russian friend who tasted the figamajigs and mentioned that they taste like what she's had as a child..some type of chocolate covered fruit, maybe similar to the chocolate covered prunes/plums?

Finally ate the bar at my office and I really preferred it to the candies. I liked the proportion of chocolate to fig. I liked the crunch of the seeds.

Thanks for the tip. Just bought some at Fairway this a.m. Wow are they good. The fig flavor really comes through and the dark chocolate compliments it perfectly. I cannot let this become an everyday habit!! :)

How much were they at Fairway? Do they have them at Gristede's or Red Apple?

I paid $2 per at a notoriously overpriced Berkeley 4th Street gourmet shop.

I haven't check in Gristede's or Red Apple, but at Fairway it's $1.39.
$2 is indeed overpriced.

I suspected as much. The 2 Figamajigs were more than half the cost of a quart of homemade chicken/potato/wild rice soup.

I just opened the bag of FigM & M's and you're right, they're good, very figgy and the dark chocolate is better than expected..

Just wondering if anyone has seen and or tried the figamajigs candy bar with almond pieces...I haven't been able to locate any so far. They look perfect.

Yes, the Pasta Shop in Berkeley had the almond bars, but I'm a purist.

i'm so glad i saw this post! i remember reading about them a while ago and thinking i had to track some down. i'm a chocoholic [dark only, please] and i love figs. can't wait to try the dark chocolate drops.

thanks for the link! Now I know to look more carefully for the bar with almonds - dark chocolate and nuts are great together.
