Pre Theater Steakhouse
Hi people. Im going to be in Manhattan for my first time and im going to the theatre 2 nights in a row and need some advice on steakhouses. I'm looking for 2 pre theater dinners that I WILL NEVER FORGET and price isnt really a concern , mind you I dont want to be at the most expensive place in town. About dress code also I dont want to have to wear anything too formal. I'm kinda looking for a good steakhouse but Im open minded. I have a simple palate. Thanks for your help people.
I second Keen's, Went there last weekend with my 15 year old daughter on our annual daughter/dad Broadway trek from Florida. Prime dry aged porterhouse for two...can't be beat. And if you like prime dry aged steak, Frankie and Johnnie's is actually in the district...nothing to look at but great meat. There is also a Palm but I would vote strongly for Keen's and then F&J
Keens is our favorite steakhouse. It's on 36th St., b/t 5th & 6th Avs., which is not very far from the Theater District. Keens has been in that location since 1885. So, in addition to excellent steaks, chops (they're known for their signature mutton chop), sides, etc., you will find unmatchable old NY ambiance, i.e., walls filled with memorabilia and rows of old clay smoking pipes suspended from all the ceilings. There are also pipes belonging to famous people in display cases in the vestibule. Be sure to stop into the bar room where a portrait of Miss Keens, in all her glory, hangs above the bar. Casual dress is entirely acceptable.
