Skitake snacks @ Whole Foods

I just want to announce that I love these dang things. I think they're fried, I dunno. Not battered and fried, just dropped into a fryer of really hot oil. So yummy on salads, pasta or straight up.

I have composed a haiku:

Shroom: little, crunchy
I eat you by the truck full.
Fried, but I don't care.

I get mine from Woodland Hills, Sherman Oaks, or Studio City. No one else seems to carry them!

    1. Oh my god, it's a miracle! I've been searching High and Low for these addictive snacks. I first bought a small can of crunchy mushroom snacks at an Asian grocery in the Valley, maybe Panorama City, years ago, it was some crazy price, maybe $5 or $6 --but hey crunchy mushroom snacks... I'll had to try it.

After scouring many Asian groceries, and getting no where, as if I was nuts to be asking about a snack made of actual mushrooms... I scoured Chinatown, (the label was in chinese). I found one can by itself --in the wrong place in one of the import stores, and when I asked (about 4 people) about more, I got blank stares, as if maybe I planted the can in their shop and was looking for trouble. There was no price on the can... but the clerk took one look and rang it up at $.99 --wow I thought, at least there's hope.

Cut to sometime last year, I was in the Hawaiian Supermarket (at Valley & New, in SG), and they have foiled bags of (can't recall the brand) crunchy oyster mushroom snacks. They have them in plain, pepper, and wasabi. Of course I bought each flavor. Heaven. Plain is good, Wasabi is amazing, pepper was disappointing.

I have gone back many times, and am thrilled to hear the Whole Foods is carrying them. I'll be checking them out very soon. These suckers are crack-a-licious!

Thanks so much for the tip Diana!

        1. re: debra

          The mushrooms are plain
No flavors are at Whole Foods
          More veg snacks are there.

          Kabocha snacks, too
          Vibrant orange, delicious
          sweet and crunchy joy!

          Should you try okra?
These snacks have no slime at all
          They, too have been fried.

          Green beans make good snacks
Nicer still when done this way
          open, taste, enjoy!

          Go and get these snacks,
Serve them at your next party
          they won't last too long!
