Best w/clam chowder

I picked up some clam chowder from a local seafood resturant that my BF and I will eat for dinner. I'll probably pick-up a loaf of sourdough somewhere. Now that I think about it, we might still be hungry. Any suggestions for what else to serve? What goes well with NE clam chowder? I don't want to cook tonight

  1. If you can find bread bowls anywhere, that would be nice to serve the chowder in. And I think that, along with a green salad would make a great meal.

    1. Chowda is usually my first couse to any fish or shellfish dish; if the chowda is going to be your main dish then a seafood appetizer would do it: shrimp cocktail, clams casino, etc. You could pick up cooked shrimp at most markets with cocktail sauce.

good call on the appetizer rec's.

Typically chowder is a starter on my menu as well, when grilling some fish, or steaming some crab legs.

      2. Good suggestions so far.

Corn on the cob is a great side dish. Oops- I just read that you don't want to cook -- could you buy shucked corn (yes everyone, I know it's not as good, but is much easier) rinse and and roast in the oven?

I took the lazy route....cooked shrimp from the fish counter, lemon, cocktail sauce; a salad from the salad bar with romaine, bacon, egg, bleu cheese, tomatoes and a honey dijon dressing; sourdough bagette and a nice chardonnay.
